ACO presentation for SDLC Partners at Carnegie Mellon University

On May 16th, I spent the afternoon with a energetic group of consultants discussing the finer points of ACO's and their impact on healthcare in the Western PA market.  I presented my thoughts for 90 minutes and then entertained questions from the group.  I was impressed with how much this group knew about ACO's and the dynamics of the marketplace.  Here are some of the highlights and major discussion points.

  • ACO's - what are they and what are their many formats and structures?
  • Impacts on community hospitals and independent physicians practices
  • Do they save money and improve quality?
  • What technology is required to support an ACO
  • Do you need a health plan?
  • What is the Patients role in an ACO?
  • Will ACO's survive and become the new model of care?
  • Q&A
I truly enjoyed my time with SDLC and their great questions.

Thanks to Eric Dahlem for making this event happen!
